Moot highlights significance of clinical excellence
LAHORE:College of Physicians and Surgeons Pakistan (CPSP) and Royal College of Physicians Edinburgh (RCPE) jointly conducted an international seminar on ‘Clinical excellence: the key to quality care’ at the Fatima Jinnah Medical University (FJMU) on Monday.
President Royal College of Physicians Edinburgh Prof. Andrew Elder, Vice chancellor KEMU Prof. Mehmood Ayyaz and the Vice Chancellor FJMU Prof. Khalid Masood Gondal chaired the seminar.
Director advanced skill courses Prof. Abrar Ashraf Ali, Principal FJMU Pro. Abdul Hamid, former vice chancellors Prof Shireen Khawar and Prof Shamsa Humayun, former principal FJMU Prof. Noreen Akmal, former dean Prof Munazza Iqbal, senior and junior faculty FJMU, PG trainees, students and nurses attended the seminar.
Director of Education, University Hospitals, Birmingham Dr. Michael Hallisey, Vice President RCP Edinburgh Dr. Susan Pound, Dean of Education and Co-Dean of Training RCP Edinburgh Dr. Kerri Baker, Vice President Global RCP Edinburgh, Dr. Conor Maguire and Regional Director CPSP, Birmingham Dr. Asad Raheem and Dr Javed Kiani attended the seminar from UK.
The session was moderated by Associate Professor Gynae Unit 1 FJMU Dr. Saima Chaudhary while the welcome address was delivered by Vice chancellor FJMU Prof. Khalid Masood Gondal. In his address, President Royal College of Physicians Edinburgh Prof Andrew Elder provided invaluable insights into the critical aspects of medical practice, from the foundational importance of history taking and clinical examination. He made the audience realise how investigations are replacing clinical examination and missing important information for accurate diagnosis.
Dean of Education and Co-dean of training RCP Edinburgh Dr. Kerri Baker delivered a very heart touching talk about importance and role of empathy in patient management. Last talk of first half of seminar was delivered by Prof Bilqees Shabbir on human and AI collaboration in medicine. After concluding first half of seminar, the delegates were taken to MCH Centre SGRH, visited the Obstetrics & Gynaecology and Neonatal Departments, and appreciated the service health delivery.
The second session resumed at 2.00pm in which Dr Conor Maguire, Vice President RCP Edinburgh gave a very thorough and extensive session on Parkinsonism. He demonstrated the steps of clinical examination in parkinsonism interacting with students and also distributed souvenirs amongst students.
The last talk of the day was given by Dr. Susan Pound on delirium. She apprised the audience about the insights into delirium assessment and management. President Royal College of Physicians Edinburgh Prof Andrew Elder appreciated the unprecedented services of Prof Khalid Masud Gondal and presented a special souvenir and medal from RCP Edinburgh to him. Vice chancellor FJMU also presented souvenirs to the President RCP Edinburgh Prof Andrew Elder and other speakers.
