Savings suspended

On October 24, I went to the Super Highway branch of a certain bank in order to open a savings account for a relative of mine. The operations manager informed me that the opening of savings accounts has apparently been suspended by all commercial banks until December. I asked the manager if the bank had received any notification/letter from the authorities to this effect. They had not.

I would like to ask the financial authorities and the commercial banks of this country what the reasoning behind this suspension is. This decision is tantamount to discouraging people from banking and seems counterproductive. The authorities concerned are requested to kindly look into the matter and resolve the issue on a priority basis.
