ISLAMABAD: On the special invitation of Senate Chairman Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani, the chairperson of the Federal Assembly of the Federation Council of Russia Ms Valentina Matvienko Sunday arrived in Islamabad on a three-day visit.
Along with the chairperson, the members of the Federal Assembly of the Federal Council are also part of the delegation. According to the Senate Secretariat, the Deputy Chairman of the Senate Syedal Khan and Senator for Hospitality Senator Bushra Anjum Butt welcomed the Russian delegation at Noor Khan Air Base.
High-level meetings and engagements are also included in the programme during the visit of the Russian delegation, says a statement issued by the secretariat. The Russian delegation under the leadership of Matvienko will meet Senate chairman, President Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Speaker National Assembly Sardar Ayaz Sadiq.
Ms Valentina will also address a special session of the Senate on Monday afternoon. Meanwhile, the Senate Secretariat has issued the orders of the day for the Monday session, scheduled to be held at 4:30pm.
