PESHAWAR: In a charged address to Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) workers, Member National Assembly (MNA) Sher Afzal Marwat on Saturday criticized the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government for ignoring former prime minister Imran Khan, who has been imprisoned in the Adiala jail in Rawalpindi.
Addressing a gathering of PTI workers here, he accused PTI leaders of abandoning the party founding chairman at a time when he needed support.
He said the PTI leaders were indulging in internal conflicts and over party positions and ministries. Marwat expressed disappointment over how personal ambitions and factional disputes within the party had overshadowed loyalty to the party’s incarcerated leader. He said some KP ministers were more interested in perks than in advancing PTI’s mission. The MNA said that he had been threatened with expulsion from the party but stated that such threats could not deter him.
Marwat said he intended to meet with the PTI founder to discuss the situation within the KP government, adding that he would inform him about alleged misdeeds, including certain officials, who he claimed should be prosecuted, instead of being rewarded with government positions. Referring to a past incident, Marwat condemned the recent promotion of a police officer who allegedly opened fire on him in Bajaur. He said that the official had been promoted as SSP in Peshawar.
He said he would inform Imran Khan about these grievances in order to challenge the status quo within PTI’s KP leadership. Marwat called for a decisive approach to help secure the release of PTI founding chairman.
