Anti-encroachment drive on University Road ordered

PESHAWAR: Commissioner, Peshawar Division, Riaz Khan Mahsud on Thursday directed the district administration to launch a large-scale operation to remove encroachments from both sides of University Road to ease traffic congestion.

The commissioner issued the directives while inspecting the ongoing Peshawar Uplift Programme Phase- II, underscoring the need for urgent action to clear the road for smoother traffic flow.

During a visit to University Road, the commissioner reviewed various development projects under the Peshawar Uplift Programme. Deputy Commissioner Sarmad Saleem Akram and Project Engineer Muhammad Adil were also present on the occasion. He also inspected the newly installed greenery at the Central Media near Town Chowk, issuing instructions for its timely completion.

Expressing concern over shopkeepers encroaching on both the main road and the service lanes, the commissioner emphasized that these obstructions were not only disrupting traffic but also spoiling the appearance of the city’s key thoroughfare. “Encroachments are hindering traffic flow and damaging the visual appeal of University Road. We must take swift action to clear these areas and maintain the road’s functionality and beauty,” Riaz Mahsud stated.

The commissioner ordered a comprehensive survey of University Road within 48 hours to identify all encroachments. He directed the deputy commissioner to mobilize heavy machinery to clear the road and ensure all obstacles are removed. He also stressed the importance of completing the ongoing projects without delay.
