Expansion of BISP’s reach to women discussed
Islamabad:Chairperson of the Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) Senator Rubina Khalid held a meeting with Pakistan Peoples Party Senator Nisar Ahmad Khuhro and discussed with him the expansion of BISP’s reach to women beneficiaries and addressing the challenges in accessing the cash disbursement programme.
During the meeting, Chairperson Rubina Khalid highlighted BISP’s ongoing efforts to raise awareness, provide training programmes, and collaborate with union councils and women's organisations for the empowerment of women.
She emphasised the importance of financial literacy programmes aimed at helping impoverished women across Sindh, enabling their families to become self-reliant and contribute positively to the national economy. Senator Rubina noted that BISP, in partnership with the Sindh Government, actively works with local UCs and women’s wings to offer skill-based training and support to beneficiaries.
About the challenges faced by the programme, Chairperson Rubina Khalid stressed the importance of increasing awareness about BISP’s benefits within local communities. She also addressed past criticisms of the programme, attributing them to false propaganda, and emphasised that strict action is being taken against those misleading innocent women.
Additionally, she directed senior officials to closely monitor the registration process to avoid future disruptions. At the conclusion of the meeting, both leaders pledged their full support for the expansion of BISP and the promotion of skill development initiatives for the welfare of beneficiaries throughout Sindh. President of the Women’s Organization, Shaughta Jamali, and other senior officials were also present at the meeting. Earlier, Chairperson Rubina Khalid also met with Provincial Local Government Minister Saeed Ghani at his office.
