Road safety

October 11, 2024
According to the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics, there were 10429 road accidents in the country in the year ‘2020-21’ which resulted in 5816 deaths and almost 13000 people injured. Why do we have so many road accidents and where are the authorities? In my opinion, the major reason for our high accident rate is the weak enforcement of traffic rules. The traffic wardens on the roads do not have enough strength to ensure road safety.
The government should take strict actions for the effective enforcement of traffic rules and regulations to ensure road safety. Mechanisms for punishment should be improved and the state should install new technology like speed cameras.
