GDA sticks to its policy of not letting its three MPAs take oath
The Grand Democratic Alliance (GDA) has said that it is sticking to its policy of not letting its three members-elect of the Sindh Assembly take the oath of their office as MPAs as it deems that the present legislatures do not represent the mandate of the people of the country.
The GDA reiterated its stance concerning the present assemblies at a top-level meeting chaired by Syed Sadaruddin Shah Rashdi at his residence.
Leaders of the alliance also stated during the meeting that they would not accept any constitutional amendment that was passed by the present Parliament.
They also expressed concern over the rising political tensions in the country and urged the parties to resort to the peaceful option of negotiations to save the country from further harm.
The participants of the meeting vehemently opposed any amendment to the Indus River System Authority Act (IRSA) Act and any plan to construct new canals to draw water from the Indus River at the cost of the water rights of the people of Sindh.
They appealed to the people, activists and supporters of opposition parties in Sindh to participate in large numbers in the upcoming protests on October 18 and 19 in Karachi, Thatta, Sujawal and Badin to safeguard the legitimate water rights of the people of Sindh.
The GDA leaders also expressed concern over the constant hike in the prices of essential products and deteriorating law and order situation in Sindh. They called for the Sindh government to take serious steps to normalise the law and order situation and safeguard the people from armed bandits operating with complete impunity both in rural and urban areas of the province.
The meeting was attended by Dr Safdar Ali Abbasi, Syed Zain Shah, Liaquat Ali Jatoi, Sardar Abdul Rahim, Irfanullah Khan Marwat, Masroor Khan Jatoi, Hasnain Mirza and other GDA leaders.
