The Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) will hold a large public meeting on October 18, 2024, at the Hatri Bypass in Hyderabad to pay tribute to the martyrs of the Karsaz tragedy.
Sindh PPP President Nisar Ahmed Kuhro said this on Friday as he chaired a meeting of the Karachi chapter of the PPP. The meeting discussed preparations for the forthcoming public meeting in Hyderabad to commemorate the anniversary of the Karsaz tragedy. Khuhro told the participants of the meeting that the PPP had emerged as a majority party in the last local government and general elections in Karachi and Hyderabad.
He recalled that innocent citizens had been martyred in Karachi both on May 12 and October 18, 2007. The PPP had gained popularity in every part of Karachi, he added. He said the candidates belonging to the PPP had won the last local government elections in 104 union committees (UC) in the city and the chairmen belonging to the PPP were governing 13 of the 25 town municipal corporations in Karachi.
The Sindh PPP president told the meeting that elected representatives of the PPP were also present in the cantonment areas of Karachi. He said the public meeting in Hyderabad to commemorate the anniversary of the Karsaz tragedy would begin at 3 pm.
Speaking on the occasion, Karachi PPP President and Sindh Local Government Minister Saeed Ghani said a large number of office-bearers and activists of the PPP would attend the public meeting in Hyderabad.
He told the participants that demonstrations would be held under the aegis of the Karachi PPP in every UC in the city on October 7 to show solidarity with the oppressed people of Palestine. He said activists and supporters of the PPP would gather on the evening of October 17 at the Karsaz tragedy monument on Sharea Faisal to pray for the departed souls who lost their lives in the Karsaz tragedy.
Committees at the divisional and district level had also been formed to finalise arrangements for an upcoming public meeting in Karachi, the meeting was told. Sindh PPP General Secretary and Special Assistant to Sindh Chief Minister Waqar Mehdi said the PPP would hold a historic public gathering in Hyderabad in memory of its workers who had lost their lives in the Karsaz blasts. He said the PPP’s workers and supporters from Karachi had always participated in gatherings and events of the party everywhere in the country in overwhelming numbers.
