KP govt urged to raise minimum wage to Rs37,000

NOWSHERA: The Muttahida Labour Federation Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has demanded the provincial government to raise the minimum wage to Rs37,000 as was being paid in other provinces.

The demand was made at a meeting of the labour organisation. Muhammad Iqbal, the head of the federation KP chapter, presided over the meeting which was attended by the leaders of the affiliated organisations as well.

Muhammad Iqbal noted that the federal government had notified Rs37,000 minimum wage and the decision was implemented from July 1, this year but the KP government

had fixed the wage at Rs36,000.

“The KP government led by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf should undo this injustice by bringing the minimum wage on a par with the one being provided in other provinces,” he demanded. Muhammad Iqbal said even Rs37,000 wage was insufficient keeping in view the price spiral but it was strange that the KP government was not ready to pay that to the labourers.

“The KP government should take notice of this economic injustice to the poor people of the province and do the needful as that would end the unrest among the labour community,” he stressed.
