Bajaur jirga adopts traditional path to restore peace

KHAR: The elders and youths of Kohi tribe in Salarzai on Thursday held a jirga to keep a vigil on the outsiders and criminals and take them to task in a bid to ensure maintenance of peace and harmony in their area.

Malik Mukhtiar, Malik Sher, Malik Itibar Khan, Malik Abdul Hakeem and other elders and youths participated in a large number in the jirga.The jirga took tough decisions and vowed to implement them in letter and spirit to ensure maintenance of peace and law and order in the area.

After threadbare discussion, the jirga decided that there would be a complete ban on the movement of people in the area after 9pm.The elders said that if someone found involved in theft or other criminal activities, he would be fined heavily besides expelling him from the area while non-locals would not be allowed to enter the area at night or else he would be responsible for any untoward incident.

It was decided that whoever was involved in crimes, the people of the area would punish him severely and demolish his house and also banish him from the area.The jirga also announced that if any person in the area was involved in criminal activities and was arrested by the government, then no person could help in his release.

The participants said that if any person tried to bail out criminals, thieves, miscreants, he would also be considered a criminal besides strangers and street vendors would be handed over to the government if they did not show valid documents, including identity cards or driving licenses.

The jirga also banned festive firing and fireworks in the area while murderers were warned of stern action against them along with demolition of their houses and severe punishment to them.The elders and youths also decided hired assassins would be dealt with an iron hand to put a halt to the killings in the Kohi area.
