Dengue threat looms as larvae found in 1,854 places

LAHORE : The threat of spreading of dengue fever has increased as dengue larvae have been recovered from 1,854 places in the City.

Data collected from Deputy Commissioner (DC) office on Wednesday revealed that during the last 24 hours, notices were issued to 1,778 people and 76 cases were registered. So far this year, 77,768 notices were issued and 3,751 cases registered. During monsoon the district government and other departments concerned did not ensure implementation of SOPs to control spread of dengue fever.

Parks and greenbelts in various private housing societies were full of stagnant rainwater whereas as per the SOPs the district government and departments concerned should ensure clearance of rainwater from parks and greenbelts.

On the other hand, newly-appointed Deputy Commissioner Syed Musa Raza reviewed dengue surveillance in Yohanabad. Assistant Commissioner Model Town Sahibzada Yusuf, CEO Health, DDHO Gulberg were accompanied by Deputy Commissioner Lahore.

He said that citizens should take precautionary measures. He said according to the vision of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, the available resources were being used to eradicate dengue larvae. DC Syed Musa Raza took a briefing from the dengue teams.

He directed the dengue teams to attend the field in time and increase the number of dengue larva elimination and directed to upload the dengue activities on the dashboard on daily basis. He said strict action would be taken against those who registered fake record.

The Deputy Commissioner said that administrative officers were continuing dengue surveillance and said dengue teams were going house to house and ensuring checking of roofs, courtyards and air-conditioners. DC Syed Musa Raza said that the dengue teams were ensuring indoor and outdoor larva elimination and said that the citizens should also support the district administration for the elimination of dengue larvae.

‘Focus on improving health care facilities’

Punjab Health Ministers Khawaja Salman Rafique and Khawaja Imran Nazir inaugurated the plantation campaign by planting a sapling in Lahore General Hospital.

On this occasion, LGH Principal Prof Dr Sardar Al Farid Zafar, MS Dr Faryad, Prof Dr Nudrat, heads of departments, faculty and academic council members were present. LGH Principal Prof Dr Sardar Al Farid Zafar gave a presentation about the hospital achievements.

Hospital; 12,000 to 13,000 patients are provided daily treatment in the LGH OPD and Emergency. We will submit a request for a new campus for Post Graduate Medical College to Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz. History is a witness that even in the most difficult situations, government hospitals have never refused to treat patients. The medical community keeps on serving the general public.

Khawaja Salman Rafique said that the government was trying to complete the ongoing revamping project in government hospitals as soon as possible. ‘Under the leadership of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, we will continue to strive to provide better health facilities to the people.’ The Department of Specialised Healthcare and Medical Education has sent a requisition for the recruitment of 3,000 nurses and 1,000 MOs, WMOs.

Provincial Health Minister Khawaja Imran Nazir directed that a technical committee should be formed for the rationalisation of ventilators in hospitals. In government hospitals, where the ventilators are in access, they should be shifted to other hospitals for the convenience of the patients. Khawaja Imran Nazir said that on the directives of the chief minister, the process of revamping of hospitals had been accelerated. Teaching units are being set up in district hospitals for patient care. The doctors and paramedics will no longer have to come to the streets for their legitimate demands. One-year road map has been fixed, all matters will be resolved amicably.

Khawaja Imran Nazir said that in order to improve the society, we have to take responsibility for our mistakes.
