ISLAMABAD: Chief Justice (CJP) Anwar Zaheer Jamali has questioned when the culture of favouritism and ‘Sifarish’ will come to an end and good governance will prevail. “It is not known whether or not we will witness in our lifetime good governance and the rule of law in this country,” he said.
The poor public is craving for a system that is based on good governance, end of the culture of favouritism, corruption and nepotism, he observed during the course of the hearing of a petition filed by private tour operators in connection with the Haj quota.
At the inception of the hearing of the case, counsel for tour operators took the plea that the Ministry of Religious Affairs was misinterpreting the court’s decisions and the quota was not being provided to registered tour operators for the last four years. The Ministry of Religious Affairs is not implementing the court’s orders, he said.
Justice Azmat Saeed remarked the Lahore High Court had ordered for implementing the court’s decisions. “Should we give a decision on non-implementing the SC’s orders?” he asked. The court, while directing the Ministry of Religious Affairs to implement the court’s orders, disposed of the petition.
The Senator said the Chief Justice’s statement that he had received no complaint disappointed him
