KP Assembly asks all institutions to work within constitutional limits

Resolution stated Muslims of Subcontinent offered great sacrifices and laid down their lives to win freedom and achieve Pakistan

PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly passed a joint resolution on Friday asking the state institutions to play the assigned roles while remaining within constitutional limits and avoid curbing freedom of expression. The joint resolution was moved by the government and opposition. Pakistan Peoples Party’s MPA Ahmad Karim Kundi moved the joint resolution in the house.

The assembly’s resolution condemned the Babara firing incident of August 12, 1948. Scores of people were killed and injured in the firing on that day in Babara town of Charsadda district.

The resolution stated the Muslims of the Subcontinent offered great sacrifices and laid down their lives to win freedom and achieve Pakistan. It said the people of Subcontinent, especially Pakhtuns, went through innumerable troubles, adding the Babara incident was on top of it which was condemnable.

The resolution said the people had remained deprived of rights from independence to this day. It pointed to basic rights, that of freedom of expression and the right to form associations which were to be ensured. The resolution said this house demands the state institutions play their assigned roles while remaining within the constitutional limits and avoid curbing freedom of expression. It asked the institutions to work as per the Constitution so that the country was put on the road to progress.
