LAHORE:Punjab Police on Monday conducted a rigorous crackdown against drug traffickers in all districts of Punjab and arrested 125 suspects in 259 raids as well as registered 124 cases against them.

According to details, in a single day police while conducting raids confiscated 54kg charas, 1kg heroin, and 1,349-litre liquor. The IGP said that during the special campaign that began on February 26, police teams conducted over 41,000 raids on drug dealers’ hideouts across Punjab. A total of 19,068 cases were registered and 19,596 suspects were arrested besides recovering 11,610kg cannabis, 63kg ice, 216kg heroin, 294kg and over 1.7 million litre liquor. The IGP directed RPOs and DPOs to intensify intelligence-based operations against drug dealers and smugglers.

IGP rewards Rs10m to 100 injured Ghazis

IGP Punjab Dr Usman Anwar has provided outstanding recognition to the brave ‘Ghazi’ officers of Punjab Police who were injured by bullets from criminal elements while safeguarding citizens’ lives and properties.

The IGP issued Rs10 million for 100 Ghazi police officers, with each officer receiving Rs100,000. Spokesperson for the Punjab police on Monday said that among the recipients of this cash award, a courageous officer who sustained six gunshot wounds was at the top of the list.Nine Ghazi officers each suffered three gunshot wounds in the line of duty, while 25 Ghazi officers received two gunshots each during encounters with dangerous criminals.
