ISLAMABAD: President Asif Ali Zardari has summoned a session of the Senate on Monday evening.
The president summoned a session of the Upper House of Parliament on August 5, at 5:00 pm, under Article 54 (1) of the Constitution of Pakistan.
While the National Assembly (NA) will resume its sitting on Monday morning and it is expected that the private member bill of amendments to the Election Act, 2017, “The Election Act (2nd Amendment) Bill 2024” will be passed by the NA. If the NA approves the passage of the bill on Monday in its sitting then it is expected that the bill will be transmitted to the Senate.
The coalition has decided to demonstrate its numerical strength in the House. The leadership of all groups has issued instructions to their members to be present in the House on Monday morning. PPP’s Chief Parliamentary Whip Ejaz Jakhrani has said that his party members will reach Islamabad by Sunday night and they have clearly been instructed to be present in the House for the approval of the amendment. Bilawal Bhutto will also return to the country tonight. He is directly reviewing the entire process, he added. The Chief Whip of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz, Dr. Tariq Fazal Chaudhry, has requested his party members to reach the meeting on time. Dr. Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui of the MQM and Pakistan Muslim League-Q Chief Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain also asked their members to play their part in the approval of the draft by both houses of parliament.
