China has launched a diplomatic coup of sorts, by signing a peace deal between the various Palestinian factions, chief among them being Hamas and Fatah. This deal is being called the ‘Beijing Declaration’ and has greatly boosted China’s image because it succeeded in achieving something that many other powers have failed to do.
One major reason for China’s success at brokering a peace deal between the Palestinian factions is the fact that China does not carry the baggage of being a former colonial empire. The Beijing accord also points to the formation of a new alignment of powers, challenging the old-world order.
