PHC CJ for case management policy to ensure quick justice
PESHAWAR: Peshawar High Court (PHC) Chief Justice Ishtiaq Ibrahim on Saturday directed the judiciary in the merged districts to take care of the litigants and said the case management policy would be formulated
for effective dispensation of justice.
A press release said that he made these remarks while chairing a meeting on the case management policy with the district and sessions judges of Kohat, Hangu and Orakzai.
The members of the administration committee also attended the meeting.
The chief justice said that the PHC would fully cooperate with the district judiciary as well as the members of the respective bars.
He emphasized that the judiciary in the merged districts must take care of the litigants. The chief justice added that such meetings will help formulate a Case Management Policy for effective dispensation of justice.
The judicial officers from the three districts, Member of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Bar Council, the president of the Peshawar High Court Bar Association as well as presidents and general secretaries of district bar and tehsil bar associations attended the meeting.
Ikhtiar Khan, registrar of the Peshawar High Court, briefly elaborated the agenda of the meeting and welcomed the participants. Mamrez Khan Khalil, additional registrar (Admn) explained the vision of the chief justice to reduce the backlog of cases.
He said that knowing the ground realities and dynamics of the district judiciary was of paramount importance in formulating an effective and robust Case Management Policy.
Sofia Waqar Khattak, District and Sessions Judge Kohat presented the date about pendency and disposal of cases which showed that there are a total of 11,284 cases pending as of 30th June, 2024.
She added that the Institution versus disposal of cases ratio stood at 123.81 percent.
Syed Obaidullah Shah, District and Sessions Judge Orakzai said that a total of 435 cases were pending for disposal as of 24th July, 2024. He added that there are 18 cases of Under Trial Prisoners. He said that 18 juvenile cases and 2 Gender Based Violence related cases were pending at the District Courts in Orakzai.
Hayat Gul, District and Sessions Judge Hangu also presented the date of the cases that showed there were a total of 1563 cases as of June 2024. He said the cases of 50 Under Trial Prisoners, 32 Juvenile and 91 Family cases were pending.
