PESHAWAR: Governor Faisal Karim Kundi on Saturday said the law and order is worsening in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and called for convening an all-parties conference on this issue.

Talking to reporters after addressing a function of the Sikh community here, the governor also suggested the holding of the in-camera session of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly to find a solution to the deteriorating law and order in the province.

He said that everyone should play a role in the restoration of peace in the province. The governor said that the provincial cabinet should have an emergency meeting to tackle the security issue. Kundi said that it was the responsibility of the provincial government to maintain the law and order after the passage of the 18th Amendment. He said that the anti-state elements were trying to disturb peace in the provincial capital.

Criticizing the provincial government, he said that it was not performing well, questioning the chief minister about the steps he had taken to overcome the issue of law and order. The governor said that he would not remain silent over the statements of the chief minister. The federal government had not taken the Pakistan Peoples Party into confidence about its move to ban the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, he added. He said that nobody would ban political parties.

The governor appreciated the efforts of police and other law-enforcement agencies for maintaining peace during Muharram. He said the minorities were an important part of our society and no effort would be spared to give them all rights. He said the members of the minorities also made sacrifices for the restoration of peace in KP.
