Eager to do well in Asia Cup, says Pak women’s coach
KARACHI: Pakistan women’s cricket team head coach Mohammad Wasim remains confident of doing well in the upcoming T20 Asia Cup 2024.
He said on Monday they have done hard work during the training camp under tough weather conditions. At a press conference on Monday at National Bank Stadium, Wasim opened up about the issues related to women’s cricket and the policies needed to address them. It should be noted that the Women’s T20 Asia Cup 2024 will take place from July 19-28 in Dambulla, Sri Lanka. Pakistan, under the captaincy of Nida Dar, are placed in Group A alongside India, Nepal and UAE, with the first match being against the arch-rivals.
“We are eager to do well. Our first match is against India, and a win over them would boost our campaign, but we will not take Nepal and UAE lightly as in T20Is any team can emerge on top on a given day,” said Wasim. “During the camp, we tried everything and would hope to see some good results,” he said.
About bridging the gap between women’s and men’s cricket, Wasim stressed that investing in a rise in salaries, good infrastructure, and facilities are the solutions. “We do not play enough matches. We are trying to have a proper domestic structure. That will help the players get used to playing in pressure situations and can also enable them to match the standards of our men’s side,” he added.
