Achakzai terms SC verdict great in difficult times
"We only want to see the parliament as the source of power," says Achakzai
ISLAMABAD: Tehreek Tahaffuz Aiyeen-e-Pakistan Chairman Mehmood Khan Achakzai Friday said the Supreme Court decision in the current difficult times deserves a lot of congratulations.
Addressing a news conference along with senior PTI leader Asad Qaiser here, he said the apex court verdict is ‘BRAVO’, according to the English language exclamation. “We congratulate the PTI,” he remarked.
Achakzai pointed out that Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar said that the seats were the right of the Sunni Ittehad Council but did not say that it was not the right of anyone. He insisted Mian Nawaz Sharif’s slogan was ‘Vote ko izzat do’ [Give respect to the vote], but his party government allowed the ISI to trace the phone calls, though the agencies already tap their phones.
The nationalist leader contended that Nawaz Sharif should dismiss the National Assembly speaker, as stubbornness would not work now.
Achakzai said that Fazlur Rehman and Jamaat-e-Islami were also supporting their movement and that if every institution would work within its limits, Pakistan would come out of crises.
“We do not want to hang generals; we are not crazy; we only want to see the parliament as the source of power. This is the only solution we have, and we are showing patience. PTI founder chairman has many options, but we don’t want to take any irresponsible action,” he emphasised.
PTI leader Asad Qaiser said the whole of Pakistan is proud of the SC decision. He also demanded the chief election commissioner resign immediately.
“Our mandate was stolen. We will visit the entire country; we will start public meetings, and become voice of people against massive inflation and price-hike,” he announced.
He said the judiciary decided the reserved seats case on merit and in accordance with the law, and the decision strengthened democracy. The Election Commission, he added, made a wrong interpretation of the SC verdict; therefore, the CEC, along with the four members, should resign from their posts.
“Today, the PMLN blocked the highway against the Supreme Court decision. How come Mian Nawaz Sharif can call himself the champion of democracy. Now we will not only condemn but will completely resist such action,” he warned.
