PDs and main OTs at public sector hospitals to remain closed during Eid

Rawalpindi: The outpatient departments and main operation theatres at all public sector hospitals in the region including tehsil headquarter hospitals in the district and the three teaching hospitals in town would not operate for three days, from Monday (today) to Wednesday in connection with Eidul Azha however, accident and emergency departments of all the hospitals would be operational round the clock during Eid holidays to receive patients.

During Eid holidays, accident and emergency departments of all government hospitals along with operation theatres in emergency would be operational on the subject of receiving new patients. The accident and emergency departments of all public sector hospitals in this region of the country have been strengthened to accommodate extra burden of patients during Eid holidays.

The administrations of the allied hospitals in town including Holy Family Hospital, Benazir Bhutto Hospital and District Headquarters Hospital have already prepared and distributed duty rosters for the staff to serve on Eid holidays. We have ensured that the hospitals’ performance during Eid holidays would remain unaffected, said Principal Rawalpindi Medical College and In-charge Allied Hospitals Professor Dr. Jahangir Sarwar Khan while talking to ‘The News’ on Sunday.

He added that his office has set a target of accommodating each and every patient visiting the allied hospitals on Eid holidays. To ensure smooth working at the allied hospitals, senior level officials from administrations would remain available in the hospitals’ premises for monitoring, he said.

He added that during Eid holidays, senior registrar level doctors would remain available in all departments of the allied hospitals while consultants including professors would remain on call from Monday to Wednesday. The consultants would also pay visits to their respective departments on a regular basis during the holidays, he said.

It is important that during Eid holidays, most of the private hospitals and clinics do not offer treatment services because of which the public sector hospitals receive a significantly heavier influx of patients at their emergency departments. Professor Jahangir said on the occasion of Eidul Azha, the number of trauma cases, mostly mild to moderate, are reported a little higher as compared to routine mainly because of accidents during the handling and slaughtering of sacrificial animals and keeping that in mind, the surgical and orthopaedics departments in emergency at the BBH and DHQ Hospital are being strengthened for Eid holidays. The HFH shall only receive patients at its gynaecology and paeds departments’ emergency, he said.
