PESHAWAR: The Peshawar High Court (PHC) has decided to forego one month of the summer vacation and continue holding proceedings to clear the backlog of civil cases pending for years.
According to PHC Registrar Administration Mumraiz Khan Khalil, the chief justice of the PHC had taken the decision after taking the senior lawyers into confidence to provide relief to the litigants and clear the backlog of the civil cases. Mumraiz Khan said normally the PHC had summer vacation for two months starting from July 1 to September 1. However, the chief justice had decided to waive one month of the summer vacation this year to hear the cases. He added that the high court would have summer vacation for one month from August 1. He said the Administrative Committee of the PHC held consultation with the senior lawyers. He said the high court would not have vacation for July and focus on hearing the civil nature cases. He said that special benches would be constituted to hear the cases, adding that a weekly roster would be issued to facilitate the lawyers. He said that efforts were being made to computerize all the work of the high court, adding that most of the things had been done and now the litigants could see the progress on the case on the website of the PHC.
