JI demands forming judicial commission on May 12 riots
Jamaat-e-Islami Karachi interim emir Munim Zafar has demanded that a judicial commission be formed on the May 12 mayhem in order to bring the culprits to justice.
Speaking at a press conference at the JI Karachi headquarters Idara Noor-e-Haq, Zafar said that May 12 is a black day in the history of the city. He recalled that on May 12, 2004, 12 people were killed to hijack the by-elections in three constituencies, then 54 people were massacred on May 12, 2007, to kill the resistance against the then military ruler Pervez Musharraf.
He lamented that the perpetrators are yet to be arrested, claiming that they are enjoying perks and privileges under the “Form 47 regime”. He vowed to continue chasing the Form 47 regime until its logical end.
The JI leader also highlighted the prevailing political scenario, electricity load-shedding and the mafia in the education system that facilitates the use of unfair means during examinations.
He said that a few days ago the prime minister had announced an educational emergency, but the government was unable to provide desks and uninterrupted power supply to schools in Karachi’s Malir area, despite some 360,000 students taking the matriculation exams under way.
He demanded that the government ensure all the necessary measures in order to facilitate the students taking the exams. He also demanded that the authorities bring the usage of unfair means in exams to an end, “instead of supporting the mafia involved”.
Talking about K-Electric, he shed light on the “misdeeds” on the part of the power company. He demanded nationalisation of the company on the grounds that it has been “flaunting” all the agreements under which it was privatised.
He also talked about the situation in Gaza. He said people with a conscience have been supporting Palestinians. He announced that the JI’s minority wing in the city would hold a Gaza Solidarity March from the Trinity Church to the Karachi Press Club on Tuesday (tomorrow).
