Pindi commissioner: ECP decides to make polls probe report public
Chattha had made startling allegations of electoral misconduct during a news conference, days after the general elections
ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has decided to make public the findings of the ‘inquiry committee’ into alleged rigging, as charged by former Rawalpindi commissioner Liaquat Chattha.
Media reports say the inquiry report will be first presented to the Election Commission prior to making it public.
Chattha had made startling allegations of electoral misconduct during a news conference, days after the general elections.
The Election Commission had formed a committee, which was headed by a senior member of the ECP and comprised the secretary, special secretary, and Additional Director General Law.
It recorded the statements of district returning officers of Rawalpindi and the relevant returning officers.
The former Rawalpindi commissioner, however, had retracted his bombshell allegations related to rigging in the February 8 polls and said he was ‘extremely shameful and embarrassed’ over the claims and submitted his reply in writing to the committee.
