PESHAWAR: An anti-corruption court on Monday extended the interim bail of six lawmakers belonging to Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) who had been nominated in a case about illegal appointments.

PTI leaders, including Iftikhar Mashwani, Abdul Salam Afridi, Mujahid Khan and Ameer Farzand appeared in the court while Atif Khan and Tufail Anjum could not do so. The court was told that the lawyers previously representing the defendants had been appointed as law officers in the Advocate General Office while their new counsels were yet to submit their licenses to the court, which extended their interim bail till May 22.

It may be mentioned that the PTI lawmakers in question had been accused of making illegal appointments in Mardan, causing loss to the exchequer. A case was registered against them after an inquiry was conducted. The anti-corruption court had granted them interim bail in the case.
