Minister urges climate-resistant cotton at research institute visit

MULTAN: Punjab Agriculture Minister Syed Ashiq Hussain Kirmani visited the Cotton Research Institute here on Friday with provincial ministers, reviewed trials, and urged scientists to develop climate-resistant cotton varieties as new research centers for cotton, wheat, and rice are being established at Rs 1.5 billion.
The minister said that such types of cotton varieties should be developed that have resistance against whiteflies and pink bollworms. All research activities should be completed keeping in view the contemporary requirements. Varieties should be developed which are profitable for the farmers. The types of developed varieties are in line with the demand of the local textile industry.
