ISLAMABAD: Rana Mashhood Ahmed, Advisor to the Prime Minister on Youth Programme, hoped to resolve pending differences of the Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) within the next fortnight.
Talking to media at the Bunda Hockey Ground Tuesday where he came to see off the national team for Azlan Shah Cup, he said: “Under the prime minister’s instructions and for the betterment of Pakistan hockey, we are confident to solve all pending issues within the PHF amicably within the next fortnight. The issues and differences will be resolved in accordance with the recommendations of the Pakistan Sports Board and Pakistan Olympics Associations (POA). They are two important components of sports in the country. Their recommendations are of utmost importance.”
The Advisor to PM said that the International Hockey Federation (FIH) has left it to the government and POA to decide on pending issues in PHF. Mashhood added that he was excited to see enthusiasm and the will within the team to perform to the nation’s expectations.
“I am really happy to see players and their spirit to perform. I wish them best of luck for Azlan Shah Cup and later for the Nations Cup.” He said that once the dust settles down, the funding for the game will be looked into. “The PM has always shown support for sports and hockey’s revival is on the top of the agenda. We will take all possible steps to financially support players and the game in days to come.”
