LAHORE : Punjab Police has intensified the crackdown across the province to eradicate the scourge of drugs and intelligence-based targeted operations have been accelerated under the Drug-Free Punjab campaign.
During the special campaign launched two months ago, 17,801 raids were conducted on the hideouts of drug dealers throughout the province, 8,381 cases were registered against the anti-social elements involved in the drug business and 8,878 accused were arrested. 5,802 kg of charas, more than 29 kg of Ice, 100 kg of heroin, 216 kg of opium and 111,079 liters of liquor were recovered from the possession of the accused.
Spokesman of Punjab Police said that in the last 24 hours, 250 raids were conducted on the hideouts of drug dealers across the province, including Lahore, 119 suspects involved in drug trade were arrested and 114 cases were registered against them. 53 kg of charas, two kg of heroin, one kg of Ice, and 1,645 liters of liquor were recovered from the possession of the accused.
IG Punjab Dr. Usman Anwar directed the RPOs and DPOs to speed up anti-narcotics operations. He directed that the special teams should bring all the suspects involved in the supply chain of drugs, including smugglers and dealers to justice. Dr. Usman Anwar further said that severe punishment should be given to those who are involved in the supply chain of drugs in educational institutions.
