People from rain-hit areas stage protest

PESHAWAR: The residents of the low-lying areas in the provincial capital on Sunday staged a protest to demand sanitation in their localities which still remained inundated with rainwater.

Torrential rains inundated villages in the low-lying areas of Peshawar from Bakhshi Pul to Larama on the Charsadda Road.Sited on the Charsadda Road and named after a Bakhshi Ram Kishen, a Hindu Seth of Peshawar in the pre-partition times, the Bakhshi Pul area has several localities. These were hit hard by recent rains that led to floods as well.

The nearby Budhni Nullah overflew as well and that inundated a host of areas located in its vicinity. Sardar Ahmad Jan Colony was among such affected localities.The streets were inundated after heavy rains causing difficulties for citizens. The people were facing difficulty with movement as the roads and streets were filled with rainwater and mud.

The residents of these areas during the protest demanded the government to take immediate steps for cleaning their areas.They said that the drainage problem in these areas had not been addressed and that was serving as breeding grounds for mosquitoes. The protesters said the rainwater had disrupted the electricity supply to these areas causing huge problems for the residents.
