EPA takes action over waste dumping

PESHAWAR: The Environment Protection Agency (EPA) on Thursday issued a notice to Water and Sanitation Services Peshawar (WSSP) for dumping solid waste on Warsak Road.

The action was taken after an appeal was filed by dwellers of Officers Garden, Warsak Road, against dumping of solid waste in the vicinity of the colony, which was causing severe bed smell and other public health concerns.

The EPA sent an official for verification of facts after receiving the appeal. The official found a large amount of waste dumped at WSSP Transfer Station Zone-D located near the colony.

The official reported that the dumping of solid waste at the site was a violation of the provisions of the KP Environmental Protection Act 2014. The EPA summoned the zonal manager WSSP on April 23 along with all relevant documents.

In case of non-compliance, ex-parte proceedings will be initiated and action taken under provision of the KP Environment Protection Act 2014, the order warned.
