A woman and a robber were killed and a passerby was injured during a mugging bid in Malir late on Wednesday night.
The deceased woman was identified as Shahida Iqbal, 45, and the injured man as Naveed Zakir, 55. The incident took place in the late hours of Wednesday within the limits of the Malir City police station.
Police said a total of three armed robbers were robbing citizens near the Mangal Bazaar in the Jafar Tayyar Society area in Malir when some people started shouting to make others aware of the robbers. The shouting prompted a citizen to fire at the robbers who opened indiscriminate fire to scare the people off.
The firing hit two passers-by, including a woman, was were injured. One of the robbers was also hit by a bullet in the indiscriminate firing by his accomplices who left the injured robber and escaped the scene.
The crowd shifted the two injured citizens to a hospital but beat up the injured robber who died. Police said that at the hospital, the injured woman succumbed to her injuries, while the man survived.
Shahida was a resident of the same area. She hailed from Lodhran, Punjab, and was a homeworker. The deceased woman lived in her aunt's house in Jafar Tayyar Society and was unmarried.
Station House Officer (SHO) Farasat Shah said the deceased robber had been identified as Israr Sharif from his national identity card. Police seized his motorcycle. The deceased robber was a resident of Shah Latif Town’s Shafi Goth. A case was reported and investigations are under way.
