LAHORE: Inspector General Police (IGP) Punjab Dr Usman Anwar Wednesday said violence and harassment against women, children and domestic workers would not be tolerated.
Chairing a video conference, the IGP said strict action would be taken against perpetrators of violence, harassment, abuse and rape with women, children, and domestic workers. He said there would be strict accountability for misuse of authority, high handedness, corruption, and violations of ethical conduct and officers' performance will be evaluated based on performance and accountability. He directed the District Police Officers (DPOs) to monitor complaints received at 1787 Complaint Centre and resolve the issues promptly. The IGP said specialised police force will be deployed to combat smuggling and other illegal activities at inter provincial border check posts. He ordered a crackdown on organised crime and drug trafficking. He asked cops to intensify intelligence-based targeted operations against kacha criminals.
The IGP directed a comprehensive policy to tackle highway robberies. He instructed CTD to intensify the combing operations to combat terrorism and anti-social elements. He directed action against habitual criminals involved in kite flying and metal strings. He asked cops to complete inquiries in an effective way. The IGP said measures should be ensured under personal supervision of DPOs for the security of Chinese nationals, residential areas, and route clearance and security. He asked all cops to control crime with full force. Additional IG Punjab, Additional IG Investigation, Additional IG Special Branch, CCPO Lahore, Additional IG Operations, MD Safe City Authority, DIG SPU, DIG Investigation Lahore, All unit heads and other officers, including AIG Operations, AIG Development and AIG Logistics also attended the meeting.
Meanwhile, Inspector General Police (IGP) Punjab Dr Usman Anwar Wednesday said welfare of cops is a priority of the police department. Talking to cops, who called on the IGP at his office, the IGP said all possible efforts would be made to provide relief to cops.
He listened the cops and forwarded the issues of constable Muhammad Naseem of Lahore Police, junior clerk Naeem Akhtar Khan, ASI Yousaf Ali of Chiniot Police, transfer issue of of Muhammad Ramzan of Sargodha Training College and Langri Abdul Azeem's son's request for financial assistance were forwarded to relevant authorities. The IGP asked the DIG Establishment-II to take action on the request of DSP Muhammad Yasin regarding his son's recruitment.
IG Punjab directed DIG Welfare to provide relief on an application for education expenses of Constable Tahir Yaqoob's daughter. The IGP ordered relief on the plea of Head Constable Baqar Hussain.
