ISLAMABAD: The 63rd Smart City National Amateur Golf Championship will get into action at the Margalla Greens today (Thursday) with around 200 golfers including some foreigners drawn to compete in different categories.
While Sri Lanka (men) and Qatar (women) teams arrived in the city, the organisers were waiting for the arrival of the Afghanistan team. “Some of the best golfers emerging from all over the country will be seen in action during the next four days competing in different categories,” Brig Sajjid Akram, secretary Pakistan Golf Federation (PGF) told the media in a press briefing Wednesday.
Besides the main trophy in the amateur category that will be contested over four days (72 holes) and ladies (three days), leading golfers will play for team honours and the inter-association trophies on stroke-play.
Under the patronage of the Pakistan Golf Federation, this premier championship showcases the nation’s finest golfing talent across three competitive categories: amateur men, senior amateurs, and amateur ladies.
“The championship is one of the premier events that showcases the talent of up and coming golfers as well as quality amateur players.” Highlighting the international flavor of the event, the championship features various team matches, including the International Team Match for Men and Women, as well as Inter-Association Team Matches for Senior Amateurs and Amateur Men.
