ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari on Thursday emphasized that following the significant progress in the case of Quaid-e-Awam Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, it is imperative for the party to actively advocate for judicial reforms across all platforms, adding that people’s faith in the judiciary has been shaken.
Addressing an Iftar dinner held to honour polling agents, polling in-charges and dignitaries of PS-10 and NA-194 at the Bhutto House, Naudero, Larkana, Bilawal stressed on the importance of judicial reforms, urging PPP workers to advocate for judicial reforms that ensure swift and affordable justice for the people.
The PPP chairman emphasized the historical significance of the Supreme Court’s ruling in Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto case, saying that it holds importance for both the party and the nation.
Referring to the case, Bilawal noted the acknowledgment of a ‘historic crime’ and remarked on the need for judicial reforms to address the significant blemish on the country’s judiciary.
The PPP chairman highlighted that the Charter of Democracy (CoD), endorsed by Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto, encompassed the agenda of judicial reforms. “We have achieved 90 percent implementation of CoD with judicial reforms being the remaining focus,” he emphasized.
Bilawal said that his party had chosen to extend support to the federal government in anticipation of resolving people’s issues, supporting the federal government with the hope that people’s problems would be solved. “We hope that if the government is given time, Pakistan will be taken out of the economic crisis,” he remarked. He asserted his commitment to addressing the country’s economic challenges, saying, “We will advocate for our people and work towards resolving their issues.”
During the election campaign, Bilawal said he had outlined his manifesto through the Peoples Economic Agreement. Despite not securing the government in the Centre, he pledged to implement the agreement as much as possible in Sindh and Balochistan.
He announced quick introduction of the Benazir Kisan Card at the provincial level and highlighted the commencement of Benazir Mazdoor Card implementation. He further instructed the Sindh chief minister to organise ‘Khuli Katcheries’ at the district level to identify people’s issues and conduct consultations on development projects.
In his address to the participants, he expressed gratitude, saying, “I am thankful to everyone for supporting us in the elections; it is through your collective effort that we achieved this historic victory.”
Earlier, Bilawal, accompanied by PPP Women Wing President and MPA Faryal Talpur, paid a visit to the Bhutto family graveyard in Garhi Khuda Bakhsh to mark the martyrdom day of Quaid Awam, Shaheed Zulfikar Bhutto. He paid his respects at the graves, starting with his maternal grandfather’s resting place where he laid a floral wreath. He also visited the graves of his mother, Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto, along with Begum Nusrat Bhutto, Shaheed Mir Murtaza Bhutto and Shaheed Mir Shahnawaz Bhutto. He showered petals over the graves and offered Fateha for them.
