PESHAWAR: The Peshawar High Court (PHC) on Wednesday issued notices to the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority and Ministry of Information and Technology on a petition against the suspension of internet services in the provincial capital and its surrounding areas from 10 pm to 6 am.
A two-member bench consisting of Justice Ejaz Anwar and Justice Wiqar Ahmad heard the petition filed by a citizen Amir through Fawad Afzal Safi Advocate.Fawad Advocate told the bench that the PTA had been suspending internet services for the last 20 days in Peshawar and its surrounding areas from 10 pm to 6 am in the name of security.
He said the users were facing problems due to the suspension of the internet services.The lawyer said that it was the responsibility of the PTA being the regulator to ensure the provision of the internet services to the consumers. He said the people, who were doing online business at night in the month of Ramazan, were facing problems due to the suspension of the internet services.
The lawyer said that the internet services of the cellular companies were also not up to the mark despite charging the customers. He pointed out that the internet services were available in other cities.
