ABBOTTABAD: Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) has launched a forceful campaign against the ‘gas thieves’ in Hazara Division and formed special teams headed by senior
officers to supervise the operation.
SNGPL Regional Manager Rehmatllah Marwat told the media on Tuesday that the industrial, commercial and domestic connection would be checked during the campaign.
“We had checked more than 4459 cases last year and out of which only 43 tampered meters were found. And a heavy fine was imposed on the violators,” he added. He said that Rs3.4 million fines had been recovered in previous year while Rs.1.7 million recoveries were made in the current year so far.
“One case of theft of CNG was reported and a fine of Rs8.52 million was imposed on the accused, who has become absconder,” he added.Under the energy saving plan, he said, 14 KM lines were replaced last year. “This year 29 KM pipelines will be replaced which will save the leakage from the outdated gas pipelines,” he added.
“Special squads are also taking care of use of gas compressors and heavy fines with disconnections of the connections is also done,” he added. The official warned the consumers of refraining from theft of the Sui gas, or else strict action would be taken for which services of FIA and other law-enforcing agencies had been taken.
