Hockey turf at NED to be inaugurated after Eid
KARACHI: A new blue turf has been laid at NED University hockey ground and is likely to be inaugurated after Eid-ul Fitr, sources connected to the development of sports infrastructure at the university told The News on Sunday.
Sources said that all development related to laying the turf has been completed and final touches are being given. Sources further said that an exhibition hockey match would be organised after Eid-ul-Fitr to inaugurate the turf. The match would be played between Pakistan hockey legends, Olympians and international players, NED sports department sources confirmed.
Sources also confirmed that in the second phase of the hockey development project floodlights would be installed and seating arrangements for spectators will also be made. The NED sources further said that after the installation of floodlights national and international hockey matches will easily be organised at NED. They hoped that regional and departmental hockey matches would also be organised. Besides all the educational institutional hockey activities, including HEC competitions, inter-college, and inter-school events, can be organised, they said.
The installation of the synthetic turf project at NED University is part of the establishment of state-of-the-art sports infrastructure at the varsity, which is moving at a fast pace and is near completion, sources said.
It has to be mentioned that a floodlights cricket stadium, a tartan track for athletics, a high-performance centre for players of all disciplines, a synthetic football turf, tennis courts, an indoor games gymnasium, and squash courts have already been established at the NED university.
