Punjab CM orders crackdown on manufacturing, sale of metallic kite string
The CM said special measures should be taken to reduce incidents of rape with award of harsh punishment to culprits
LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has ordered an indiscriminate and strict crackdown on manufacturing, sale and purchase of metallic string used for flying kite. While chairing a meeting on law and order situation here on Sunday, she directed the inspector general of police (IGP), Punjab, to submit a daily report on crime control and performance of police officers. The CM ordered immediate measures to ensure implementation of the law against kite-flying in the province. She said steps were needed on a war footing to implement the anti-kite-flying law. “It is not enough to register a case; the accused should be punished,” the CM added.
Maryam Nawaz also ordered registration of cases against drug-traffickers and to devise a legal mechanism to stop online delivery of drugs in educational institutions. She warned that no-go areas would not be allowed in the province.
The CM said special measures should be taken to reduce incidents of rape with award of harsh punishment to culprits. She said those involved in crimes against children, employees and domestic violence should also be curbed.
CM Maryam Nawaz separately expressed her deep sense of sorrow over the death of a young child due to kite flying in Sargodha. She expressed her heartfelt sympathy and grief with the bereaved family.
Meanwhile, in her message on the World Anti-TB Day, the CM said: “Today is the expression of our unwavering determination for complete eradication of TB”, adding that TB was treatable, and it was very important to make people aware of it. The battle to end TB must be won for a healthy Punjab, she said and added, “Termination of TB is possible through timely diagnosis and effective treatment. The lives of patients dying of TB can be saved with effective treatment.”
CM Punjab Maryam Nawaz also congratulated the Christian community on the festival of Palm Sunday. She expressed her good wishes for the community around the world, especially Pakistani Christian community on this occasion.
“I pray for happiness of all Christian brothers and sisters on the festival of Palm Sunday,” she said.
