Sindh Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Emir Muhammad Hussain Mehanti on Friday criticised the Sindh government and law enforcement agencies for their failure to protect the lives and property of the people of the province.

In a statement, the JI leader said maintaining peace and providing protection to the lives and properties of citizens was the basic responsibility of the government, but it had failed to do so.

He added that the entire province from Karachi to Kashmore was burning in the fire of unrest and the kidnappings of 200 people in the past two months and the rising ‘Daku Raj’ (bandit rule) in Sindh were quite alarming.

“Is the government only concerned about looting the public by imposing heavy taxes and making the life even more difficult for the poor people,” he questioned, adding that despite continuous protests, neither did the government nor did the administration pay any heed to act against the bandits.

He demanded that the president, prime minister and army chief take notice of the deteriorating law and order situation and rising tension in Sindh, and provide relief and protection to the public.

“It is a matter of concern that a handful of dacoits are challenging the writ of the government,” he commented, adding that while the security of the tax-paying public had become fragile, the rulers were enjoying VIP protocols, planes, tanks and forts.

He said that now even highways, roads and motorways were not safe, questioning if the government was helpless or complicit in the crimes of the dacoits.

He added that despite spending a large budget of the country on the Rangers, police and other institutions, the people of Sindh were yearning for peace.
