RAWALPINDI/LAHORE: The Special Judge of the Anti-Corruption Establishment in Rawalpindi, Ali Nawaz Bhakhar, has granted 14-day judicial remand of former tehsildar Najaf Hameed, brother of former ISI DG Lt Gen (R) Faiz Hameed, in a corruption case involving fraud and bribery.

Najaf Hameed was apprehended by anti-corruption officials from the premises of the Rawalpindi court after his request for interim bail was denied in case No. 16/3 last year. A total of 18 suspects, including Hameed, were named in a case involving bribery, misuse of authority, and losses to the national exchequer, with other suspects still evading arrest.

The court approved a 14-day judicial remand after rejecting the plea to extend his bail and sent him to Adiala Jail. It directed the ACE authorities to present Najaf Hameed in court on April 1.

A case has been registered against Najaf under Section 420, 468 and 471 in the Anti-Corruption Department Chakwal. It is pertinent to mention here that in April 2023, the anti-corruption department of Rawalpindi had started an investigation against Najaf Hameed. Anti-corruption Rawalpindi had written to Deputy Commissioner Rawalpindi and Deputy Commissioner Chakwal, asking them to provide records of Najaf Hameed’s land and assets beyond his income. According to Anti-Corruption, Rawalpindi, Najaf had been promoted as as Naib Tehsildar out of turn. He has been accused creating assets beyond means. Najaf was suspended from the post of Naib Tehsildar on February 16, 2023.
