The anti-encroachment department of the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) has written a letter to the city police chief and other authorities for supporting action for the removal of encroachments from all small and big throughfares and service roads of the metropolis.
Officials said on Thursday that the senior director of the Anti-Encroachment Municipal Corporation, Imran Rajput, has expressed anger over encroachments on both sides of roads and important intersections in Karachi.
He said encroachments are established around all roads and flyovers of the city, which is a question mark on the performance of the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation. He said an ‘Operation Clean and Green’ has been planned keeping in view the strict orders of Mayor Barrister Murtaza Wahab against the extortion mafia.
Rajput said encroachments should be removed from the city in two days, as they did not want to be subjected to contempt of court proceedings by ignoring the court’s orders to remove encroachments.
The director and deputy director land encroachment posted in all towns of Karachi should perform their duties; otherwise; they would have to go home, he warned. Moreover, Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah has also ordered action against the extortion mafia and sought an immediate report from the officials concerned.
The KMC has also written a letter to the additional IG of Karachi and the traffic police DIG. The letter reads, “I am directed to convey the directives of the Competent Authority, i.e. Mayor, KMC that Anti-Encroachment Department, KMC, has started anti- encroachment drives on a daily basis for strict compliance for removal of encroachers from the main roads for fluent flow of traffic in Karachi in the Holy Month of Ramzan.
“Therefore, you are hereby requested to direct the concerned authorities to assist the staff in anti-encroachment drives and keep vigilance on the main roads of Karachi so that the moveable encroachers cannot obstructs and reoccupied the roads again”.
