Women share life stories & struggle to achieve success

PESHAWAR: Shaheed Benazir Women’s University here on Thursday arranged a panel discussion titled “Invest in Women, Accelerate Progress” to commemorate International Women’s Day.

The panelists were successful women from different walks of life, including former member KP Assembly Samar Haroon Bilour, Public Health Association President Saima Abid, poet Bushra Farrukh and former advisor to chief minister, Asiyah Khan.

The panelists shared their life stories and struggle to achieve success and break the stereotypical mindset of society. They also highlighted the role of family support extended to them and its impact on their achievements.

Samar Bilour emphasized on the strength of women. She encouraged female students to become leaders and pave the way for the upcoming generations. She discussed her pain and hardship both at political and economic fronts after the assassination of her husband and the support extended to her by family.

She added that females possess the courage to face society and make their mark and emphasized upon the importance of women’s right to speak on all forums and their representation in all cadres. She also stressed the need for effective accountability for all.

Dr. Saima Saleem called for the role of women in nation building in any capacity. She enlightened students regarding her efforts to raise the female health issues in the provincial assembly and the challenges she faced during organizing various health awareness campaigns regarding breast cancer which was not known and commonly discussed among females in the province.Asiya advised the students to be strong in their decision-making that has a meaningful and positive impact on the society in general and the women population in particular.
