PESHAWAR: The Convocation 2024 of the University of Engineering and Technology, Peshawar took place at the Convocation Hall, University of Peshawar, to celebrate the academic achievements of graduating students for the academic session 2023.
Chancellor/Governor of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Haji Ghulam Ali conferred degrees upon the successful graduating students in the presence of members of the syndicate, deans, heads of different departments, faculty, and parents.
A total of 480 graduates were conferred degrees in engineering and non-engineering programmes, including 444 B.Sc. degrees, 08 Ph.D. degrees, and 28 M.Sc. degrees. Additionally, 20 gold medals were awarded to graduates who achieved top positions in their respective technologies, while a cash prize of Rs100,000 was presented to the topper of the Department of Electrical Engineering, Engr. Momina Naveed, by Fast Cables Ltd.
Governor Ghulam Ali extended congratulations to the graduates and scholars, stating: “Today is a day of joy and success for the students.”He encouraged the graduating students to rise in honour of their parents and faculty at the convocation and expressed hope that the young engineers, through their unique research capabilities, would significantly contribute towards solving real-life issues, bringing honour to the institution and teachers.
He emphasised the importance of Pakistan’s fortune in its large youth population, stating that the youth are the most valuable asset for any nation. However, he advised them to accept differences of opinion gracefully to promote a culture of tolerance in society. He applauded the efforts of UET Peshawar in promoting academic culture with an emphasis on research and commercialization of ideas generated by students and state-of-the-art research.
The vice-chancellor, Prof Dr Qaisar Ali, expressed gratitude towards the government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Higher Education Department KP, HEC, and guests. He congratulated the graduates and their parents on their achievements.
He said that despite scarce resources, the university spends Rs1.6 million on each student over four years of their study. He urged the graduates to be grateful to their institution for this service, emphasising that they are not only graduates but also the future of Pakistan.
He highlighted that UET Peshawar offers scholarships of almost Rs80 million to a large number of deserving and talented students and has achieved a significant milestone by fully implementing the Outcome Based Education system under the Washington Accord.
Vice-Chancellor University of Agriculture Prof Dr Jahan Bakht, Former VC UET Prof Dr Iftikhar Hussain, and senior faculty members and officials of UET Peshawar also attended the event. After the formal ceremony, the graduating students celebrated their achievements with their families and peers.
