Speeding car kills constable

LAHORE : A police constable was killed while his friend was injured when a speeding car went out of control and hit a tree in Batapur area on Saturday.

It has been reported that Constable Khalid was going to Sherakot with his friend when a high-speed car hit them in Batapur area. As a result of which the constable died on the spot while his friend Tasawur was injured and shifted to the hospital.

According to the police record, the deceased Khalid was a resident of Minhala village and was posted in Police Lines Qila Gujjar Singh.

Rs9 lakh released for cops’ treatment

IG Punjab Dr Usman Anwar on Saturday has released Rs9 lakhs for the medical treatment of five employees serving in different districts. IG released the above mentioned funds after scrutiny and approval of the Compensation Award Committee.

The injured constable M Niaz of Bahawalpur was given Rs3 lakhs for medical expenses while injured constable Syed Nasir Abbas Shah was sanctioned Rs3 lakhs for treatment. Rs1 lakh was released to the injured Constable Ghazi Waheed Murad of Sialkot for medical expenses. Injured driver Constable Tanveer Akhtar and Arshad Mehmood were also given Rs1 lakh each for the treatment.

Road accidents

The Emergency Services Department (ESD) responded to 1,280 road accidents in all districts of Punjab during the last 24 hours.

In these road accidents, 17 people died, whereas 1,336 were injured. Out of these, 573 people with serious injuries were shifted to different hospitals, while 763 victims with minor injuries were treated at the incident site by Rescue medical teams.

Motorbikes were involved in the majority (74%) of road accidents.

Furthermore, the analysis showed those 680 drivers, 44 underage drivers, 202 pedestrians, and 471 passengers were among the victims of road accidents.

The statistics showed that 248 road accidents were reported in Lahore which affected 264 persons placing the provincial capital on top of the list followed by Faisalabad with 112 victims and Gujranwala with 91 road accidents and 89 victims.
