SLICP employees warn protest
against proposed privatisation
From Our Correspondent
MULTAN: The State Life Insurance Corporation of Pakistan employees on Wednesday rejected the proposed privatisation of the organisation.
It was rejected in a joint meeting of field workers and Area Managers Associations members held in the chair of Field Workers Federation secretary general Agha Sohail Kamran at the SLIC Multan Headquarters here on Wednesday. Agha Sohail alleged that the government had assured the IMF of privatisation of the State Life Insurance Corporation of Pakistan in the current year. He claimed that the government had planned to sell 10pc to 15pc shares of the SLICP in the beginning, adding that the SLICP employees were not in the favour of privatisation.
The other office-bearers, including Muhammad Anwar, Rana Jahangir, Raja Jamal, Syed Zeeshan, Malik Faisal, Mirza Nasir, Irfan Hashmi and Nasir Javed, warned the government of launching a countrywide agitation against proposed privatisation of the SLICP. They expressed concern over the government’s bid to privatise the Pakistan’s largest and profitable corporation and said that the proposed privatisation was against the national interest. The meeting unanimously rejected the privatisation and demanded the government withdrawal from the decision immediately. They warned that if the decision was not withdrawal, the SLICP employees would stage sit-ins in all cities of the country. They also warned that the employees would protest in front of the Parliament House if their demand was not met.
