ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan’s inquiry committee will initiate its work from today (Monday) and furnish its report on the election rigging allegations leveled by Rawalpindi’s former commissioner, Liaquat Ali Chatha, by Wednesday (February 21).
According to a source, the relevant district returning officers (DROs) and returning officers (ROs) of the Rawalpindi Division have been intimated regarding the investigation into the rigging charge by former commissioner during media talk on Saturday.
After its special meeting, the Election Commission had formed a high-level committee, which will be headed by a senior ECP member and includes the commission’s secretary, special secretary and additional director general law.
The inquiry committee has been given task to record the statements of DROs of Rawalpindi and related ROs in this regard, and submit its report to the ECP within three days.
After the submission of report, a decision will also be taken regarding the contempt of Election Commission and legal action against the Rawalpindi commissioner, the spokesman said.
