Minister discusses health sector collaboration with US envoy

The US ambassador assured to cooperate for advancing the agenda of global health security

ISLAMABAD: Caretaker Health Minister Dr Nadeem Jan called on US Ambassador Donald Blome and discussed issues pertaining to health sector and mutual interest.

The US ambassador appreciated the steps taken by the health ministry to keep the country and world safe from epidemics and diseases. The minister informed that Pakistan had successfully organized the Global Health Security Summit in Islamabad. The US ambassador assured to cooperate for advancing the agenda of global health security.

They also discussed the situation of nutrition in Pakistan. Dr Nadeem Jan informed that the Ministry of Health had formulated an integrated strategy to control malnutrition. A task force on nutrition has been formed which will ensure coordinated actions between the federation and the provinces, donors and stakeholders, said the health minister.

He also informed the US envoy about the formulation of an integrated strategy to eradicate polio. Dr Nadeem said that polio workers were working on the frontlines, adding the services of polio workers will be utilized in other areas of health sector like family planning, nutrition and immunization program.
