Islamabad: At a press conference held in Islamabad, Rotary International President Elect for 2024-25, Stephanie Urchick, alongside Aide Thomas Gump, lauded the commendable humanitarian efforts of Rotary Pakistan.
The event, graced by distinguished figures including Rotary International Director Faiz Kidwai, District Governor Masrur Scheik, and AR PIC Imran Ghaznavi, showcased the collaborative commitment towards service.
Faiz Kidwai illuminated Rotary International's humanitarian aims, spotlighting the transformative Rotary Pakistan Smart Villages project. Engaged at the grassroots level, this initiative is uplifting the poorest communities, fostering development in small towns and villages, and empowering residents. Beyond providing essentials like homes and shelters, the project harbours ambitious goals in infrastructure, education, and health. Already, water treatment plants, kitchen gardens, and solar-generated electricity illuminate these villages. Vocational and financial management training at Smart Villages aims to instil entrepreneurship and promote de-urbanisation in Pakistan. With 20 Smart Villages slated for completion by June 2024, the project is poised for nationwide expansion based on the needs of deserving communities.
President Elect Stephanie Urchick hailed Rotary Pakistan's humanitarian spectrum, specifically acknowledging the transformative Smart Villages initiative covering all seven humanitarian focus areas of Rotary International. She singled out the frontline polio workers in Pakistan, expressing confidence that their commitment would eradicate polio from the country. Speaking on Rotary International's adaptability, she affirmed a place in Rotary for those with the heart and hands for service.
Tom Gump echoed admiration, emphasising Rotary Pakistan's service efforts, particularly in sanitation, water treatment plants, and mobile libraries.
Rotary Pakistan leaders underscored the pivotal role of youth in the nation, emphasising Rotary's commitment to fostering leadership and nation-building among the youth.
As the completion of 20 villages by June 2024 looms, the ambitious project is set to unfold its transformative impact, reaching far and wide across Pakistan to uplift the most deserving communities.
