Police officer gets bail in woman harassment case
PESHAWAR: A senior police officer, who was accused of harassing and torturing a woman, on Monday secured interim bail from the court of an additional district and sessions judge.
Additional District and Sessions Judge Liaqat Ali granted the interim bail to Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Mohammad Arif. The court stopped the police from arresting the accused.
The judge, who granted the bail to the police officer, ordered the relevant officials to produce the record of the case at the next hearing and adjourned the proceedings till December 18.A woman had alleged at a press conference recently that Mohammad Arif had harassed her.
She had alleged that the police officer in question was putting pressure on her to get divorce from her husband and marry him.The woman later approached the Chamkani Police Station where a first information report was registered against the senior cop.
A case was registered against the accused under sections 354, 506 and 337 of the Pakistan Penal Code.Mohammad Arif was later suspended and an inquiry was ordered to probe the serious allegations levelled against him.
